Live from Netroots Nation, Van delivers closing keynote
I'm here at Netroots Nation in Austin, TX. Van will be delivering the closing keynote speech this morning. It's a pretty amazing conference to close out, especially because of Al Gore's surprise appearance with Nancy Pelosi yesterday morning.
Here's a live stream of Van's address. The keynote is scheduled to start at 10am central time, but things are running late...
Update 8/7/08: We're waiting for the full video of Van's speech, but here is a news clip of it in the meantime:

Gore challenges America: carbon-free electricity in 10 years
Yesterday, in a landmark speech, Vice President Al Gore set forth a challenge to America to transition to 100% carbon-free electricity in the United States within a decade. In addition to addressing environmental, economic, and national security concerns, this effort has the potential to lift people out of poverty and into prosperity.

Green Jobs Act Appropriations: The struggle continues
Our fight to win full funding for the Green Jobs Act this year has been a back-and-forth battle. Recently, we have endured some setbacks and learned some tough lessons. Green For All and our allies will continue the fight – and accelerate it. But a complete victory now looks unlikely until the next president takes office. Nonetheless, we are confident that we will successfully secure some federal funds in this year’s appropriations bill for green-collar job training – though less money than we had desired (and the bill itself may get vetoed if it even gets to the President’s desk). Next year, we will win more – under much more favorable circumstances. In the meantime, here is some insight into our journey so far.
Visionary green business ventures at BALLE
A couple of weeks ago, wearing my new hat of Community and Business Partners Manager for Green For All, I had the chance to go to the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) Conference in Boston, MA. I was excited to hear, from both seasoned and emerging entrepreneurs, their stories of sacrifice, dedication and vision in creating locally-based, socially-responsible and ecologically-motivated business ventures in cities across the United States and Canada. I was most moved by a few of the business leaders who have implemented businesses in urban areas, and have committed to hiring people from disenfranchised neighborhoods and those who have been formerly incarcerated.
