Position Summary
We are seeking a creative, experienced Senior Policy Associate (SPA) who will be primarily responsible for directing efforts within targeted states to win concrete policy changes that support the development of an inclusive green economy. The SPA will also contribute to policy analysis and research and federal and local policy advocacy efforts as needed.
Successful candidates will be self-motivated with experience and skills in policy development, advocacy and organizing. They will be able to work effectively within a fast-paced environment that requires adaptability and a sense of humor.
The Senior Policy Associate reports to the National Policy Director and works as part of a passionate and strategic Program and Policy Team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of Green for All's policy advocacy efforts in targeted states
- Work with state partners to develop state-specific policy proposals, drawn from own knowledge (and other G4A expertise) regarding state best practices;
- Develop and help implement advocacy strategies targeted at state legislatures;
- Provide technical assistance to state administrators to help improve existing programs or to develop new policy initiatives.
- Lead multi-state efforts to seed G4A priorities for state implementation of federal programs or of other signature G4A policy initiatives that can help develop an inclusive green economy within states;
- Work with state partners and G4A field staff to organize key constituencies in support of state advocacy goals.
- Work collaboratively with national partners pursuing similar policy goals within states.
- Perform policy analysis and research as needed.
- Assist G4A’s local and federal policy advocacy efforts as needed
- Help guide the overall strategic direction of G4A’s Program and Policy Team
Experience & Qualifications
- 3-5 years experience in state-level policy development/advocacy in one or (preferably) more of the following policy areas: energy, environment, economic development, workforce development, and anti-poverty.
- Proven ability to work independently, and also to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team.
- Knowledge/experience in Green Economy or related areas.
- Experience at a non-profit public policy organization is a plus.
